Fellowships

Program Overview

Our faculty and staff are clinician-educators and scientists that are dedicated to the task of training tomorrow's cardiologists. The state-of-the-art practice of cardiology is taught in an environment that retains a personal touch. Although the cardiovascular fellowship is a 3-year accredited program, a 4-year curriculum that includes expanded research activities is encouraged as part of our goal of training cardiovascular clinician-scientists.

Clinical Training

The clinical activities are performed at OHSU and the VA medical center which are located on the same campus. The curriculum includes mandatory rotations and electives. For each rotation, the learning objectives and expectations according to ACGME competency categories are provided.

Research Experience

There are many basic science, translational and clinical research opportunities at OHSU. Our faculty includes superb mentors who are recognized internationally for their research and teaching accomplishments (see Faculty List). The research component is generally funded through extramural sources coordinated between the fellow and mentor.

Heart Rhythm (Electrophysiology) Fellowship

This fellowship is an accredited year of advanced training in heart rhythm disorders. Additional research years dedicated to adjunctive training in electrophysiology research are possible. The basic components of this fellowship include advanced training in diagnostic and therapeutic electrophysiology studies; management and consultation of inpatients with disorders of cardiac rhythm; placement and management of electrophysiology devices; and outpatient management of patients with heart rhythm disorders.
