More than 32,000 babies are born each year with a congenital heart problem. If they are born in Oregon or SW Washington, it’s very likely that they will receive their heart evaluation and care at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.
Our experts offer a full spectrum of heart care services, from developing heart-healthy action plans for children at risk for disease to performing complex surgical procedures. In addition, our specialists are available for emergency care 24 hours a day.
The Pediatric Cardiology team consists of board-certified doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, perfusionists, nurses, medical assistants, technicians, dieticians, and other support personnel, all highly experienced in caring for children with both congenital and acquired heart disease and focused on providing the highest quality, family-centered, care possible.
In a typical year:
- We see more than 5,000 patients in over 13 different locations throughout the Pacific Northwest.
- We perform over 10,000 diagnostic tests including, electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, cardiac MRI, and electrophysiology studies.
- We perform over 500 interventional cardiac procedures, including both surgical and cardiac catheterizations.
We provide services throughout Oregon. At these sites across the state, we consult with local doctors on new patients as well as provide ongoing care for children with congenital heart disease. Almost 30 percent of the heart patients we see receive care from our experts in their own community.
