Why that’s so important
At Doernbecher, we believe every child deserves the best. That’s why we’re dedicated to offering the most advanced care. We have the largest number of pediatric specialists working together to advance children’s health through the latest treatments and research. All in a place that’s designed just for kids. Outcomes: The best children’s hospitals keep kids safe, help them heal, guard them from infections and complications and increase the quality of life for those with chronic conditions. According to U.S. News & World Report, our outcomes rate among the best—not just in the region, but in the country.
Services: The best children’s hospitals offer the widest array of services. OHSU Doernbecher offers more treatments and a wider range of health care services to more children than any other hospital in the region. Our outreach specialty clinics also bring Doernbecher care and treatments to communities throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington.
Team: Doernbecher has the largest number of children’s specialists working together in one location: more than 1,000 doctors, nurses and staff, all specially trained in and dedicated to pediatric care.
Reputation: Doctors around the country think well of us: Pediatric specialists across the nation ranked us as one of the hospitals where they would send their sickest patients.
How the research works
For the 2012-13 rankings, U.S. News surveyed 178 pediatric centers to obtain clinical data in 10 specialties and asked 1,500 doctors in each pediatric specialty where they would send the sickest children.
The annual rankings in U.S. News & World Report’s 2012-13 Best Children’s Hospitals feature 50 hospitals in each of 10 pediatric specialties: cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.
