Kids & Teens

For Kids & Teens - Harold Schnitzer Diabetes Health Center
If you're a kid, having diabetes is tough. For parents, it can be even tougher. At the Harold Schnitzer Diabetes Health Center, our team of dedicated professionals is devoted to caring for patients and families with diabetes. Our team includes:
  • Pediatric endocrinologists (diabetes specialists)
  • Registered nurses
  • Certified diabetes educators
  • A pediatric nutritionist
  • A pediatric social worker and
  • A child psychologist

We believe diabetes is a family affair. Your child will do better now, and later in life, if you help him or her manage diabetes properly. You can help by:

  • Learning as much as you can about diabetes so you understand the daily routine and are not surprised by minor complications.
  • Talking with other family members about diabetes.
  • Getting support from friends, family and neighbors--for yourself and your child.
  • Forming a partnership with your child's doctor and members of the healthcare team.

If possible, join organizations like the American Diabetes Association and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to keep up with new research and treatments. Find out what the local chapters offer. They may have a mentor program, connecting you to another family with a child with diabetes.

Help your child meet other kids with diabetes through community activities, online groups and programs for diabetes support and education.

We believe including the family as part of the healthcare team is important to make sure kids and teens with diabetes stay as healthy as possible. At the Harold Schnitzer Diabetes Health Center, we are here to help you create the best plan for managing your child's diabetes.
