Wiping Away Deep Wrinkles

By Anna Bar, M.D.

Botulinum rejuvenation (commonly referred to as Botox) is one of the safest, most popular cosmetic treatments being performed today. “I look angry, even when I’m not!” is one of the most shared cosmetic concerns my patients have. Sometimes deep wrinkle lines form as a result of prolonged facial muscle overuse and botulinum rejuvenation can be a solution for this. Botulinum rejuvenation relaxes the muscles that cause the deep wrinkles. I like to artfully inject the medicine so that patients retain their expressions but do away with that “angry” look. Botulinum rejuvenation usually lasts around three months at first, but studies have shown that after about two years of use, its effects stretch to four to five months.

At OHSU we are pleased to announce that in addition to Botox® Cosmetic, we are also offering Xeomin® treatments. Xeomin® is the latest neurotoxin to be approved by the FDA. Also known as incobotulinumtoxin A, it works in essentially the same way as Botox®. This will provide patients with more options down the road for their cosmetic treatments.

The most popular areas to treat are the furrows in between the eyebrows (the glabella), the forehead lines, and the crow’s feet. Keeping up with botulinum rejuvenation treatments is an easy way to make sure that you always look younger than your age!
