Patient Selection and Costs
Orthodontic faculty instructors screen patients for the Orthodontic Clinic throughout the year. After screening, if treatment is to begin, diagnostic records will be made and you or your child will be assigned to an orthodontic resident and a supervising faculty instructor. The following is an overview of treatment steps, patient responsibilities and treatment fees.

Usual treatment steps
- Screening: brief examination, discussion of treatment possibilities. Fee: no charge
- Orthodontic records appointment: detailed exam, photographs, x-rays, etc.
- Fee for records: to be paid when the records’ appointment is scheduled ($324.00).
- Treatment consultation: presentation and discussion of diagnosis and treatment plan.
- Treatment: Usually requires 2 to 3 years to complete treatment.
- Appointments are often scheduled for one hour and always on the same day of the week when the supervising faculty instructor is here.
- Appointments are usually scheduled on 1 - 6 week intervals.
- Fee for treatment: payment is due at the start of treatment ($3,655.00).
- Retention: one set of retainers and retention appointments for two years are included.
With good cooperation, treatment will be completed as quickly as possible. If cooperation is poor, for example due to inadequate tooth brushing, frequent broken braces, or missed appointments, treatment will take longer and teeth may be damaged. A patient with poor cooperation may be charged additional fees and (or) dismissed from the orthodontic clinic.
Fees for comprehensive orthodontic treatment
