Blepharoplasty, eyelift surgery or ptosis surgery are among the most common reconstructive surgeries. These surgeries are designed to eliminate excess skin and fat in your upper and lower eyelids. In some cases, blepharoplasty is done together with facial liposculpture. People with thin, fine wrinkles of the lower eyelids may benefit from facial skin resurfacing as well.
Usually, both upper and lower lid corrections are done during the same procedure. The incisions are hidden in the skin creases or on the inside surface of your lower eyelids. After the excess skin is removed, the wound is closed with delicate, dissolvable sutures.
After surgery, some temporary swelling and bruising of your eyelids may develop. Minimal restrictions are placed on activity for one week and you may resume normal activities after that. Eye makeup may be worn after the first week.
