Ptosis Corrective Surgery

Ptosis refers to a drooping of the upper eyelid so that the lid margin (location of the eyelashes) encroaches on the pupil or covers a portion or all of it. This can significantly impair your peripheral vision or cause you to appear sleepy. If you have ptosis, you may find you have to tip your head back to see better. Your neck might feel sore. If ptosis affects only one side, you might look like you’ve had a stroke.

Ptosis can be surgically repaired by tightening a tendon in the upper lid through a lid crease incision or from the back of the eyelid. This is done as an outpatient; most people are back to work in the second week after surgery. Minimal restrictions are placed on activity during the first 2-3 weeks.
