Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Program
Clinic Description
The only comprehensive program in Oregon for infants, children and adolescents with brain tumors, the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology department treats 45-50 new pediatric brain and spinal cord tumor patients annually.
Surgical Neuro-oncology
Doernbecher neurosurgeons use the latest technology to maximize tumor removal and preservation of function in higher-risk tumor removals. These techniques include cortical, white matter, brainstem and spinal cord mapping, identification of language sites, intra-operative magnetic resonance imaging, and endoscopic tumor resection. Doernbecher neurosurgeons teach these techniques to practicing neurosurgeons both nationally and internationally.
Partnership provides hope
Together with the OHSU Cancer Institute and the Children’s Oncology Group, an international childhood cancer research organization, we bring the newest drug trials to your patients who may not have had success with conventional cancer treatments. OHSU Doernbecher is the only COG Phase I center for pediatric cancer care in the State of Oregon.
Multidisciplinary teamwork
An array of subspecialists collaborate in an effort to provide a highly specialized treatment plan for pediatric patients. A weekly Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Tumor Board meets to discuss new patient care plans and decisions. Experts in neuro-oncology, neurosurgery, radiation oncology, neuroradiology, neurology, neuro-ophthalmology, endocrinology, neuropsychology, neuropathology and nursing departments work together to tackle the challenges of brain tumors.
