For urgent medical matters or emergencies, go to the emergency department of a local hospital, and/or dial "911."

The Department of Emergency Services is a full-service, emergency and Level-I trauma center. Full-time faculty and resident physicians provide the initial evaluation, treatment and disposition for patients of all ages with emergent and urgent health care needs 24 hours-a-day. The department is a major portal of entry to OHSU Hospital and Doernbecher Children's Hospital and is supported by a dedicated all R.N. nursing staff, by a 24-hour radiology service located within the department, and by all the specialty and subspecialty services available at OHSU Hospital. Ancillary services such as computerized axial tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, emergency ultrasonography, and a comprehensive diagnostic laboratory are all all available.

The Emergency Department also maintains the Emergency Medical Communications And Transport Center. This 24 hour-per-day communication station is the Medical Resource Hospital and Trauma Communications Center for Multnomah County and Area Trauma Advisory Board (ATAB) #1. The service provides physician consultation to paramedics in Multnomah and Clackamas counties and coordinates radio communications for the six-county Oregon Area #1 Trauma System.
