Clinic Description

The Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology studies and treats cancer and disorders of the blood in adults. The highly experienced staff provides consultation and offers patients a variety of innovative diagnostic and therapeutic studies. Comprehensive cancer care is provided through interdisciplinary treatment programs in concert with Radiation Oncology and Surgical Oncology. As a participant in the Southwest Oncology Group and the Oregon Cancer Center, the division carries out interdisciplinary clinical research in the diagnosis and therapy of various anemias, lymphomas, leukemias, and myelodysplasia, bone marrow failure, cancer of the breast, lung and head and neck, thrombosis and coagulation disorders, aging, and bone marrow transplantation.

In addition, research programs on oncogenes, DNA damage and repair, tumor drug-resistance, surface receptor function, hematopoietic growth factors, interleukin biology, gene regulation, cell growth, anti-cancer drug development and anti-cancer biological therapy are well established.

Services At This Clinic

- Full consultative services for patients with bleeding isorders and thrombosis, myelodysplasia, leukemia and lymphoma, breast cancer, lung cancer and bone marrow failure. Autologous and allogeneic bone marrow transplantation are performed for leukemia, lymphoma, bone marrow failure, and a variety of solid tumors. Laboratory procedures that include colony growth assays white cell function studies and DNA diagnostic studies in molecular oncology. Consultation on any type of cancer or hematologic disease. Special clinics include Hemostasis/Thrombosis Clinic, Breast Cancer Evaluation, Clinic and Anti-Coagulation Clinic.
