Gene Microarray Shared Resource

The Gene Microarray Shared Resource is is one of several OHSU resources supported by the Knight NCI Cancer Center Support Grant. The grant ensures that management and support services are available for the researchers and programs of the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute.

The OHSU Gene Microarray Shared Resource (GMSR) was founded in 2001 with the mission of providing high-quality, affordably priced DNA microarray services. GMSR users have applied microarrays to gain valuable insight on complex disease mechanisms, the effects of therapies, the genomic profiles underlying a disease predisposition, the basic science behind developmental and other biological processes, stem cell biology and more.

Massively Parallel Sequencing Shared Resource

The OHSU Massively Parallel Sequencing Shared Resource (MPSSR) was founded in 2009 with the mission to provide OHSU researchers with on-site access to highly parallel short read sequencing technology and to provide short read sequencing services to non-OHSU researchers.

Funding for the purchase of an Illumina GAIIx was provided by a generous grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust.  The principal investigator on the application was Robert Hitzemann, Ph.D., Chairman of the Department of Behavioral Neuroscience.  The preparation of the grant involved the OHSU Research Office, the OHSU Foundation, and many members of the OHSU research community.  The upgrade to the Illumina HiSeq 2000 was funded by OHSU.

The MPSSR was originally located in the Center for Health and Healing on the South Waterfront campus. In April, 2012, it relocated to recently remodeled space on the fifth floor of Richard Jones Hall on the main OHSU campus. The laboratory room number is RJH 5390. The director's office is RJH 5327A.
