My Knight Cancer Story

Leukemia Clinical Trials

Clinical trials to treat Leukemia at OHSU Knight Cancer Institute.

Not all patients are cured with standard leukemia treatment, and some standard treatments have more side effects than you want to live with. If this is true for you, you might seek help through a clinical trial to treat your leukemia. Patients who participate in clinical trials have the first chance to benefit from leukemia treatments that have shown promise in earlier research. They also make an important contribution to healthcare by helping leukemia doctors learn more about the disease.

My Knight Cancer Story

Rob Shick discusses his leukemia treatment and prognosis at OHSU Knight Cancer Institute

At age 44, Rob Shick had always been healthy and active, so he was shocked to hear that he had leukemia. He started taking Gleevec, the cancer drug developed by OHSU Knight Cancer Institute Director Dr. Brian Druker. “Within five weeks, my blood count was back in the normal range,” Rob says. He never missed a day of work, a workout or any of his children’s activities.
