Rare Gynecologic Cancers
Trophoblastic tumors, germ cell tumors and gynecologic sarcomas are rare cancers of the female reproductive system. They are much less common than cancer of the ovaries, uterus or other reproductive organs.
At OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, our doctors have the expertise to treat these rare cancers. For germ cell tumors that are found early, several new treatments called cytotoxic agents have cured almost 100 percent of cancers. Women who had these treatments were still able to have children. Sarcomas are treated with surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible, followed by chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
