Meet Robert Raish, M.D.

Robert J. Raish, M.D. joined OHSU Knight Cancer Institute from Washington state where he was in practice for 20 years and took care of a broad range of hematology and oncology patients. For the past three years, he split his time between his private practice and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance at the University of Washington.

“It’s essential that the patient, family and oncologist work as a team,” he says. “Building a partnership makes sure that the best decisions are made for each individual patient. It’s about thoroughly knowing the patient and family’s goals and values, and working together on what the best treatment is for that one person.”

As part of the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute team, Dr. Raish’s hematology and medical oncology practice will be focused in community clinics located in Northwest Portland and at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria.

"Patients are becoming increasingly knowledgeable, even before they see their doctors for the first time, he says. The more  people know, the more they appreciate getting involved with facilities that provide the latest tools and state-of-the-art care."

Dr. Raish also believes strongly in clinical trials to ensure wide access to pioneering treatments and therapies—it’s one of the reasons he was excited to join OHSU. “There’s a commitment to patient care, but also to teaching and research on multiple levels. The breadth of the research commitment and teaching program are unmatched. It’s a mission I’m excited to support.”
