Biography

Dr. Selden cares for premies, infants, children and adolescents with diseases of the brain and spinal cord that require surgical intervention. He has advanced training in pediatric neurosurgery and is an acknowledged national expert in many disorders, including birth defects of the spine (spina bifida and Chiari malformation), brain tumors, and brain trauma in children. Dr. Selden is the surgeon for Oregon's only epilepsy surgery program for children, and also for the largest craniofacial disorders program in the state (including synostosis and other birth defects of the skull).

He also treats hydrocephalus, cerebral palsy with spasticity, and vascular malformations of the brain and spinal cord. Dr. Selden is also a leader in his field, serving on the Executive Committee of the national Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and as an editor of Pediatric Neurosurgery. In 2007, he was the first surgeon ever to transplant purified neuronal stem cells into human patients, in an effort to treat the fatal neurodegenerative disorder, Batten's disease.
