Biography

John Saultz, professor and chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at OHSU, received his medical degree from Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed his residency at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, and a faculty development fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  In addition to Department Chair, he is currently Assistant Dean of the School of Medicine and Director of the Oregon statewide Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) program. Dr. Saultz is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice, a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and a member of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. He was the 1996-97 President of Oregon Academy of Family Physicians, and 1993-94 President of the Association of Family Practice Residency Directors.  Dr. Saultz served on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education from 1992-98. He is the author of the Textbook of Family Medicine: Defining and Examining the Discipline. His areas of special interest are family systems medicine and communication in the doctor-patient relationship. His personal interests center on his wife and three children as well as basketball, baseball and fly fishing.
