Biography

Dr. Susan L. Orloff is Professor of Surgery, the Director and Chief of Abdominal Organ Transplantation at Oregon Health & Science University and Chief of the Liver Transplant Program at the Portland VA Medical Center. She completed her residency and transplant fellowship at the University of California – San Francisco and has been practicing transplant surgery and hepatobiliary surgery in Portland for the past 16 years. She has served as the Director of the Pacific Northwest Transplant Bank and previously served as the Director of Basic Science Research and Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Surgery for eight years. Dr. Orloff established and now supervises a highly productive NIH and VA-Merit Review funded laboratory and holds a joint appointment in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology. She internationally recognized as a leader in hepatobiliary surgery and liver transplantation. She is the author of over 90 peer-reviewed scientific articles, 20 book chapters in the fields of microbiology, transplant immunology, liver transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery. Dr. Orloff is on the editorial board of 3 journals and is an invited reviewer for 16. She is an active member of several surgical societies including the prestigious American Surgical Association, serving on many national committees.
