Assistant Professor, Restorative Dentistry; Director, Faculty Dental Practice
Biography
Kevin Kwiecien, D.M.D., is an assistant professor of restorative dentistry at OHSU School of Dentistry. After graduating from OHSU in 1995, he moved back to his hometown of Reno, Nev., and bought his first dental practice, which he owned and operated until 1999. He and his family returned to Portland that year where he purchased his second practice. He owned and operated a successful private practice until 2010, when he decided to follow his passion for teaching both dentists and dental students, selling his practice and beginning full-time work at the dental school. The correlation between the technical side of dentistry and the behavioral side of dentistry has been his passion which was introduced early in his post-graduate continuing education, and has continued in his 2,000-plus hours of classes and study clubs. He dedicates the majority of his professional time to academia, including course-directorship at the dental school, while working towards a master’s degree in healthcare management. Most recently, he became director of the Faculty Dental Practice and director of the Urgent Care Clinic and Patient Admissions. His practice focuses mostly on complex restorative dentistry, temporomandibular disorders and diagnosis, and sleep apnea; however, he enjoys all facets of general dentistry. He continues to teach study clubs outside of the dental school; is a visiting faculty member at the Spear Institute in Scottsdale, Ariz.; is being considered for a position on the advisory committee for the L.D. Pankey Institute; is a strategic planning committee member for the American Equilibration Society; and is a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. He maintains memberships in the Academy of General Dentistry, American Equilibration Society, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. His daughter, who graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a business degree, currently lives and works in Boston, Mass. His son is a sophomore in high school. He enjoys training for duathlons, half-marathons, and cycling in the summer, and spends many days snowboarding in the winter months. He can be reached at kwiecien@ohsu.edu.
