Biography
Dr. Jim Katancik is a specialist in periodontics and implantology. Dr. Katancik provides all aspects of periodontal care including the treatment of gum disease, dental implant placement and when necessary bone grafting for future implant placement, tooth extraction with grafting of the bone, grafting for gum recession and root exposure, and contouring gum tissue for smile enhancement. Dr. Katancik works closely with you, the patient, and your dentist to provide periodontal care that complements your restorative needs and is esthetic, functional, and predictable over time. Treatment options should be understandable and compatible with your finances and time. In addition, treatment modalities should be evidence-based and Dr. Katancik continually strives to update his knowledge so that he can provide his patients and referring dentists with valuable information on how to best achieve periodontal, oral, and systemic health. Dr. Katancik has 25 years of clinical and research experience built upon graduate and post-graduate education in general dentistry and periodontics. Dr. Katancik served as a member of the Dental College faculty at the University of Tennessee and director of the Advanced Program in Periodontics until 2005 when he was recruited to The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston to serve as chair of the department of periodontics. Dr. Katancik accepted a full-time academic position at OHSU and as of July 1, 2012, chairs the department of periodontology. At OHSU, Dr. Katancik lectures and teaches dental and specialty students.
