Dr. Walsh earned his MD at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He did his residency at Fairfax Family Practice. After his residency he worked in the South Bronx at a community health center where he and his partner developed a Faculty Development program, a Family Practice Residency program, and a full Department of Family Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine (one of five New York City medical schools without a department or division of Family Practice). After serving as Residency Director of the Bronx-Lebanon Family Practice Residency for 7 years, Dr. Walsh moved to Redmond, Oregon and joined a 5-doctor family practice group. In January 1995, he was hired as an Assistant Professor and Director of the Portland Family Practice Residency Program and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2002. In 2006, he returned to New York for two years and has now returned to OHSU Family medicine. He is seeing patients at the Richmond Family Health Center.Dr. Walsh was originally a college English major and a professional musician. He remains an avid reader of medical and non-medical literature and continues to play guitar daily.
