Biography

The treatment of osteoporosis has seen the introduction of specialized medical therapies that may not be available in a primary care office. These include options such as Forteo, Reclast, and Prolia. Dr. Vanek has experience with these medications and has successfully treated difficult and severe cases of osteoporosis. Dr. Vanek has a lot of experience in the diagnosis and management of primary hyperparathyroidism and works closely with the ENT (thyroid/parathyroid) surgeons at OHSU. He also has knowledge in rare disorders of bone and mineral metabolism such as osteogenesis imperfecta, x-linked hypophosphatemia, and pseudohypoparathyroidism.

I also manage benign diseases of the thyroid and working at OHSU allows me the use of ultrasound guided thyroid biopsy, nuclear medicine thyroid scanning, and radioactive iodine ablation.
