About me

Timothy L. Smith, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.S. is Professor and Vice Chair in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon where he also serves as Director of the Oregon Sinus Center, Chief of Rhinology and Sinus-Skull Base Surgery, and Director of Clinical Research. Dr. Smith is actively involved in clinical practice and research and serves as the Principal Investigator of the first multi-institutional, multi-disciplinary study of outcomes of sinus surgery funded by the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Smith has published over 300 peer-reviewed articles and other scientific publications and has mentored numerous faculty, fellows, residents, and post-graduate students who have substantially advanced the field of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery.

Dr. Smith is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Triological Society and the American Rhinologic Society. He has been honored with the Distinguished Service Award from the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the Dr. Maurice Cottle Honor Award for distinguished research from the American Rhinologic Society. He is the first American Rhinologist/Sinus Surgeon to be elected to the Collegium Oto-Rhino-Laryngologicum Amicitiae Sacrum (CORLAS).

Dr. Smith is a Past President of the American Rhinologic Society and has been elected to the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and to the American Board of Otolaryngology. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief Elect of the International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology and has served as an Associate Editor of JAMA Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and has served on the editorial boards of several other journals.
