Academic and Clinical Position
Dr. Nazemi specializes in the care of children and adolescents with brain tumors, and has developed a weekly Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Clinic that offers multi-disciplinary care from neuro-oncologists, neurologists, endocrinologists, radiation oncologists, neurosurgeons, social workers, school teachers/liaisons, and specialized nurses in neuro-oncology. She is also the chairperson of the weekly Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Tumor Board, where individualized treatment plans are made for brain tumor patients as MRI results and pathology slides are reviewed by neurosurgery, neuro-radiology, radiation oncology, neuropathology, and neuro-oncology. This collaboration and direct communication is the most important component of the specialized care provided by the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Program at Doernbecher. The expertise of this team is recognized nationally, and Dr. Nazemi works closely with leaders in Neuro-Oncology across the country.
Dr. Nazemi has a particular interest in continued and further collaboration in clinical trials, both within the Children’s Oncology Group and in smaller multi-institutional collaborative groups. This brings the frontier of treatment for brain tumors to patients in Oregon and allows them to be home in their own environment during their treatment course. Dr. Nazemi is the institutional Principal Investigator for multiple national clinical trials in brain tumor research. She also has an interest in the role that neuro-imaging has in treatment decisions, particularly with regards to radiographic impression of tumor progression vs. pseudoprogression.
