Kristy Mathes was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and lived there until she was 8 years old. She then moved to the Seattle area, where she spent the next ten years wishing for warmer weather. In pursuit of the sun, she went to the University of Southern California for undergrad and majored in Biological Sciences. After graduating, she moved to Corvallis, Oregon to work as a research assistant at a nonprofit organization studying global warming, where she was responsible for various activities including raising bees. She then moved across the country to Rochester, New York to attend medical school and experience a snowy winter. During medical school, Kristy spent six weeks in Dangriga, Belize researching telemedicine, fostered puppies and kittens, and traveled to Costa Rica to learn to surf and attempt to learn Spanish. She is excited to continue surfing in the future. She also loves cooking and going out to eat, doing crossword puzzles in coffee shops, biking, and trivia night (though she isn’t ready for Jeopardy, by any means).
