Pediatric Otolaryngologist


Dr. Derek Lam was born in London, Ontario, Canada but moved to Mercer Island, Washington at the age of 11. He went to Cornell University in Ithaca, NY where he earned a Bachelor’s degree with honors in Chemistry before returning to Seattle to attend medical school at the University of Washington. He stayed at UW for residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery during which time he became interested in clinical epidemiology and outcomes research and completed his Masters of Public Health. He then completed a two year pediatric otolaryngology fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. In addition to general pediatric otolaryngology, his clinical interests include the treatment of pediatric aerodigestive disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, subglottic and tracheal stenosis, laryngomalacia, laryngopharyngeal reflux, pediatric voice disorders, and velopharyngeal insufficiency. His research interests include the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric obstructive sleep apnea. Outside of work Dr. Lam enjoys skiing, snowboarding, surfing, soccer, softball, and ice hockey.
