Resident, Family Medicine at Richmond
Matt was born in Poughkeepsie, NY, and at an early age, moved to Vermont. His adolescence was filled with frosty winters and an abundance of skiing. He attended Tufts University in Massachusetts, where fell in love with the sciences, majoring in Biopsychology. He was fascinated by the vast unknown of the mind, becoming involved with research on how humans control their emotions. Matt appreciated Boston so much that he pursued medicine at Tufts University, officially earning the badge as a "Double Jumbo." This opportunity led him his first exposures to primary care, where he volunteered at a local clinic for the underserved populations of Boston, and joined an outreach group that promoted healthy eating and nutrition. During this time, Matt also became enamored with the world of healthcare quality improvement, immersing himself in new models of care, and participated in transforming a practice into a Patient-Centered Medical Home. He realized that he became invigorated by the intricate relationships formed with patients; there grew a collection of stories from every person he met, each one offering a glimpse into someone's life. Matt is enthusiastic to join the many leaders and innovators at OHSU, who provide some of the most progressive medical care in the country. Family Medicine affords him an eclectic mix of people, as well as a holistic and preventative approach to medicine that resonated with his ideologies. He believes that family physicians will be at the forefront of transforming our healthcare system. He is particularly looking forward to pursuing his interests in nutrition and obesity prevention, palliative care, sports medicine, and healthcare quality improvement. Matt is a simple person at heart, and tries to enjoy life day by day. He is frequently in the kitchen perfecting his cooking skills, and also embraces Portland’s plentiful music and food scenes, as well as its many outdoor wonders.
