Biography
Dr. Bardo provides integrative care for children and adults in two very specialized areas of radiology. She is a “hands-on” Radiologist who routinely meets patients and with parents, to explain how examinations are performed and to review radiologic findings. She also regularly participates in interdisciplinary clinical conferences and makes didactic presentations so that clinician understanding of imaging findings are thoroughly understood and integrated into care plans. Her research in radiation dose reduction has changed the way patients are positioned for craniofacial CT exams so the thyroid gland is not exposed to radiation. This subtle change has lead to decreasing radiation dose in children who undergo multiple CT exams during the course of their care. In another effort to decrease medical radiation exposure to children, Dr. Bardo has worked with the Pediatric Neurosurgery, Emergency Department and Pediatric physicians to markedly reduce the use of cervical spine CT in patients suffering minor trauma. When neck pain persists, MRI can be used to diagnose ligamentous injury which is more common in children than is fracture. Dr. Bardo also provides care for her ‘future’ patients through developing Fetal MRI at OHSU. She meets with patients before exams and closely monitors the exam as it proceeds. This is necessary as the fetus does not follow commands to lie motionless.
