Education at OHSU

For Teachers

"Our future depends on reaffirming America's role as the world's engine of scientific discovery and technological innovation, and that leadership tomorrow depends on how we educate our students today, especially in math, science, technology and engineering."

- President Barack Obama, Jan. 7, 2010
Physician and teacher

At OHSU, we know that teachers are the single most important factor in a student’s education and providing direct services to teachers is a critical component of our effort to increase science literacy throughout the region.  These direct services include the Annual OHSU Spring Teacher Workshop, summer research internships for teachers, classroom visits by OHSU scientists, and more.  The Office of Science Education Opportunities coordinates OHSU’s resources for teachers. If you would like to be notified about OHSU programs and events for teachers, email scied@ohsu.edu with your name, school, teaching level and email address.

Please let us know how we can support your work in the classroom.

Partners in Science

This program, administered by The M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, provides a generous stipend to encourage and enable full-time high school science teachers to participate in research.  Selected teachers conduct research projects under the direction of mentors in the Partners in Science Program for 8 weeks during each of two consecutive summers. Scientist mentors at OHSU’s West Campus are identified by March of each year. The grant application deadline is December 1st.

For a list of mentors and projects at the Oregon National Primate Research Center/OHSU West Campus, contact Diana Gordon gordondi@ohsu.edu or 503-346-5055. For application materials and more information about this program, visit the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust website.
