Discover OHSU!
Discover OHSU! provides educational visits to the Marquam Hill campus for high school juniors and seniors enrolled in science, health science or health career classes throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington.
Visits are offered from 9:30AM to 1:00PM or 10:30AM to 1:00PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays from October through May. Visits must be reserved in advance by teachers. Online registration for the 2012-2013 school year visits begins on August 18, 2012.
Discover OHSU! partners with OHSU health and science research professionals and students who help visiting students explore careers in health and science through interactive and educational presentations and occasional visits to certain OHSU facilities. OHSU partners include PARC (Portland Alcohol Research Center), the department of Pathology, Adult Rehab Services, Patient Care Services, the OHSU library, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Behavioral Neuroscience, and Patient Transportation.
Discover OHSU! also partners with Donate Life Northwest to provide information and presentations regarding organ, tissue and whole body donation. Donate Life NW presentations comprise talks from both a professional in the field and either a donor recipient or a donor family member.
In addition, students with signed parental consent, participate in a cadaver presentation led by a second-year medical student.
Volunteer guides, who are either members of the Assistance League of Portland or the community, escort visiting students. To inquire about educational visits through the Discover OHSU! Program, please contact Beth Rodgers, Manager at 503-494-5267.
"Thank you so much for a great experience. Everyone was so wonderful and the students walked away with some great knowledge and experiences! My sophomores are already talking excitedly about going next year."
