E-News Special Edition April 2014
The period around the Oregon Dental Conference is traditionally the busiest time in the alumni year, and 2014 was no exception. Eleven classes celebrated reunions, two hundred alumni and guests recognized alumni achievement at the annual Awards Luncheon, and an additional three classes will gather together before year’s end.
For many, however, the highlight of this year's reunion weekend was a chance to don a hard hat, reflective vest and protective eyewear for a visit to the School of Dentistry's new home on the banks of the Willamette River.
Dean Phillip Marucha, Emeritus Dean Jack Clinton and Alumni Relations Director Mark Kemball led tours of Skourtes Tower OHSU School of Dentistry within the Collaborative Life Sciences Building. Close to 125 guests worked around construction activity and explored the new clinical floors before visiting the lecture halls and educational areas where dental students will learn side by side with students in other OHSU programs.
"You can see why we are excited to be so close to completion," said Dean Marucha. "Years of hoping, planning and organizing will finally be realized on July 1, when we begin our move and on July 7, when we begin caring for our patients in the new clinics. This building, and the work that will happen here, means so much to dental education in our state and our region."
