In March, 2009, a team of two surgeons representing the American College of Surgeons (ACS) performed a comprehensive evaluation of the Department of Surgery's surgical simulation center, VirtuOHSU.
The report from the accreditation team was then forwarded to the ACS Accreditation Review Committee for a final decision. Dr. Donn Spight, Medical Director of VirtuOHSU was primarily responsible for the coordination of the visit.
We were delighted to receive notification from the ACS that VirtuOHSU received full Level 1 ACS Accreditation as an Education Institute. The accreditation was awarded for a three-year period of time.
This accreditation brings VirtuOHSU into the national network of ACS Accredited Education Institutes that offer state of the art surgical education to surgeons, surgical residents and members of the surgical team. This is another step on the road to OHSU and the Department of Surgery becoming a nationally recognized simulation institute.
