"Collaboratively Constructing the Science of Nursing Education: One Researcher's Journey"

A graduate of OHSU's (formerly University of Oregon) School of Nursing baccalaureate program, I have always had the heart of a teacher. After graduation, I was very clear that my thinking had been transformed into thinking like a nurse! The question of how that transformation occurred stayed with me through my clinical practice settings and into my master's program at University of California, San Francisco, where I completed a teaching track.

I joined the faculty at OHSU School of Nursing in 1999 as clinical faculty, working with such a diverse group of prelicensure students. The question reappeared in the form of, how can I best help students transform their thinking? With lots of stimulating input from mentors and colleagues, I found a way to answer that question in my doctoral studies at Portland State University and continue to collaboratively build on that quest in my research and teaching.
