Community Health Nurse Resources
The "Nurse-Midwifery: Focus on Educational Technology" Grant seeks to strengthen specific areas of OHSU's nurse-midwifery program, namely curriculum and the teaching process. These pages were created to offer resources to Oregon's community health nurses serving vulnerable women, particularly Hispanic women, through education, direct service and indirect service.
Home visits by nurses have proven to improve a variety of outcomes for vulnerable women, including pregnancy outcome, childhood injuries, and repeated childbearing. Ten thousand women, approximately 25 percent of all pregnant Oregonians, receive this service. One-third are Hispanic; one-third are teens; two-thirds live below the poverty level.
Resources are organized according to two audiences: the patient and the community health nurse.
