I am currently a Clinical Faculty for the SoN UG program at Oregon Health & Science University, Portland Campus. I still work in the operating room as a staff nurse. I was the unit educator for three years. My primary responsibility as a unit educator was to oversee the perioperative orientation program. I came to embrace the fact that as a nurse educator, I was responsible for preparing and mentoring current and future generations of nurses and scrub technicians. One of my professional achievements was being the educator who has the clinical expertise and a passion for teaching with knowledge and skills that entailed my ability to design, implement, evaluate, facilitate learning, and advancing the development of the learner.
M.S.N. - Oregon Health and Science University (2013)
B.S.N. - Linfield College School of Nursing (1998)
As an Operating Room Unit Educator, I was responsible for the Unit wide in-service of all staff members on topics dealing with policies, procedures, guidelines and standards of practice. I was also the orientation coordinator and I was in charge of orienting new hires (interns, experienced registered nurses and scrub technicians), evaluated learning outcomes, incorporated AORN standards and recommended practices for nurses, facilitated roundtable discussions on teaching techniques of preceptors, and debriefed new hires. As a preceptor, I am engaged in teaching nursing students and new hires the role of the operating room nurse, and teaching scrub technician students and new hires the role of the surgical scrub.
Actively practicing as an OR nurse.
