My interests in professional nursing incorporate and support the missions of teaching, practice, and scholarship. I value and strive towards the goal of being an expert teacher. I have extensive teaching experience in undergraduate and graduate nursing education and currently serve as a teacher, mentor, and resource for students of the DNP program. I believe in the power of "stories" from my 18 years of critical care nursing and 18 years of advanced practice to inform and inspire students. I seek to influence at the national level the education, practice, and scholarship through my involvement with nursing organizations such as NONPF, AANP, RNO, and AAMN and as a manuscript reviewer for numerous nursing journals.

As an FNP, I strive to offer client-focused, collaborative care incorporating health promotion and prevention. As a current volunteer clinician, I care for the primary and acute care needs of uninsured patients at a community clinic in Hillsboro. My scholarly work includes numerous articles on practice-related and theoretical topics for peer-reviewed journals. I have completed a funded research project examining the clinical skills and procedures of nurse practitioners in Oregon. As the Director of the Rural Health Track since 2011 and recent PI for two SON HRSA grants, I seek ways to expand nurses influence in the care of rural and underserved populations. My previous research interests focused on the inter-relationships between the natural environment and healthcare systems;seeking to promote a "Greener" nursing practice.

I have been privileged to receive a number of awards including the 2011 AANP Nurse Practitioner State (Oregon) Award for Excellence and the 2013 OHSU SON Outstanding Graduate Teacher. In 2013, I was inducted as a Fellow in both the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the American Academy of Nursing.
