My interests in nursing incorporate and support the three missions of OHSU. I value and strive towards the goal of being an expert teacher. I have taught students of different ages in many subjects (biological sciences to nursing sciences) and using a variety of delivery systems (classroom, experiential, online). I believe in the power of "stories" from my 18 years of critical care nursing and 14 years of advanced practice to inform and inspire students. I seek to influence the education of advanced practice nurses through my involvement on the NONPF Board of Directors.
As a Family Nurse Practitioner, I strive to develop a client-focused plan of care and serve as a health education resource. As a clinician in the university's student health center, I care for the primary care and acute needs of the students while guiding them towards healthy-living practices. As part of my scholarly work for the advanced practice profession I have written 25 articles for the Drug News column of The Nurse Practitioner Journal.
I am currently completing a funded research project examining the clinical skills and procedures of nurse practitioners in Oregon. My previous research interests focused on the inter-relationships between the environment, the healthcare system, and clients. My scholarly work seeks to promote a "Greener" nursing practice.
As a faculty member for the D.N.P. program, I am available as a teacher, mentor, and resource for students. I believe my role is to guide and support graduate students in their educational development.
