back to faculty & staff list

Dr. Frances Lee-Lin has been in cancer nursing since 1986, functioning as a clinical nurse, oncology educator, clinical nurse specialist, nurse manager, assistant director, senior research nurse, and academic faculty member. She received the Outstanding Baccalaureate Faculty Award in 2005 and the Most Inspirational Faculty Award in 2010.

The driving force behind her passion for her research is a desire to reduce cancer health disparities and to improve the health of Asian Americans. Despite the widespread availability of cancer screening, disparities in cancer screening rates persist among Asian Americans. Her Master's thesis from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) studied the informational needs of newly diagnosed Chinese American cancer patients. Her doctoral work at the University of Utah focused on the knowledge, beliefs, and practices related to mammography and Pap smear screening among Chinese American women. The work received the dissertation award from the University of Utah in 2006. Beginning in 2009, her American Cancer Society (ACS) grant sought to improve mammography-screening rates for Chinese American women. She is also a co-investigator of a National Cancer Institute study on improving colorectal screening among Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese Americans using a culture-based educational intervention within a community center environment. The recently funded Komen project focuses on improving the capability of communities to implement evidence-based interventions to increase mammography-screening rates. She has demonstrated a consistent progression in building an innovative research program to improve health of Asian Americans.
