My passion for nursing is making a connection with people, to not only diagnose and treat, but improve health and quality of life. My passion for students is to foster life- long learning, use of evidenced based health decisions, and a humble appreciation for the life circumstances that shape patients’ perceptions of health, illness and access to healthcare.

Education

Teaching

RN to BSN students and graduate students in the FNP and Nurse Educator tracks since 2000.
Currently teaching OHSU graduate students in the FNP/ Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program.

Research/Inquiry

Her program of research includes investigation of health disparity and inequity related to barriers to access to health care for the underserved, uninsured, elderly, and people in transition, including immigration transition.

Practice Activities

  • Primary care delivered in FQHCs and ED on Navajo Nation, AZ
  • Private practice in 2002
  • Established a nurse managed clinic for the homeless and serves as medical director

  • Leadership in HC administration

Service activities

  • Appointment to the OHSU Teaching and Learning Committee 2011 to present.
    Board of Directors and Vice Chair Shelter Services.
    Forensic Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE)
    Radiation and Exposure Screening and Education Program provider.
