Northwest Coalition for Geriatric Nursing Education

Northwest Coalition Mission

We are a Coalition of Schools and Colleges of Nursing in the Northwest United States committed to advancing the health of older adults through excellence in nursing education. Informed by research, we seek to develop and nurture the best educational methods to foster excellent nurse clinicians, researchers, and teachers who are dedicated to the health and welfare of older adults.

Teaching Resources

One of the principal goals of the Northwest Coalition for Geriatric Nursing Education is to increase faculty knowledge and skills for teaching older adult content throughout the curriculum.  Our current work is focused on the development of the GeroNursingEd.org Web site and other resources to assist school of nursing faculty to teach content on geriatric nursing. Visit our Web site and explore our teaching resources.

If you have a geriatric teaching resource to share on this Web site or want to request the development of a particular type of resource, contact soncgne@ohsu.edu.

History

In July 2002, the Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence at Oregon Health & Science University hosted a gathering of seven schools and colleges of nursing in the Northwest to engage in mutual goal setting and to inform academic partners about the Hartford Center and about opportunities for faculty and students. Since the first meeting, the NW Coalition has expanded to 16 institutions located in five states: Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.   View the NW Coalition Members and Work Committees.

Thank you to the John A. Hartford Foundation, the OHSU Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence and our partners - the schools and colleges of nursing in the NW Coalition for Geriatric Nursing Education for their support.
