Student Government
Every student enrolled in OHSU is a member of the National Student Nursing Association (NSNA) and a local chapter (in this case, Ashland). The local chapter of the Student Nursing Association (SNA) is the student government on campus and is responsible for organizing functions, budgeting student finances, and acting as a liaison between students and faculty.
The Executive Board of the SNA is comprised of students from every grade level, this allows all classes to be involved with decisions and have representation. The Board is comprised of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, in addition to a historian and representative from each class. Elections for all Jr. and Sr. positions are held the last month of the school year while the sophomore elections are held within the first 2 weeks of school. The Executive Board meets monthly and meetings are open to all students.
In the past SNA has organized student 'buddy' programs, student socials, canned food drives, American Red Cross Disaster Training, student participation in national conferences, student representation in scholastic matters, organizing graduation and commencement activities, and have been involved with mentoring middle schools girls, the Medford Pear Blossom Parade and Street Festival, and the Relay for Life in Ashland. Members of the SNA have also independently started a chapter of Nursing Students without Borders and plan to take a trip to South America in the future to help underprivileged people who are in need of health care.
The SNA is here to help students as they progress through the nursing program here. We try to listen and support all students' views while upholding the OHSU standards.
