Course Description

The Sommer Memorial Lectures and Alumni Scientific Sessions bring nationally and internationally-known speakers to discuss a broad range of current clinical, research and societal issues in medicine. Topics are designed to be of interest and value to both the generalist and specialty physician.

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be:

  • Familiar with newer anticoagulants and able to weigh the risks and benefits of using them rather than older drugs
  • More aware of the role hormones play in bariatric surgery
  • Better able to treat patients with deep venous thromboembolisms; understand how long to use anticoagulants and how best to discontinue their use
  • More knowledgeable of various treatment options for patients suffering with back pain
  • Aware of the media’s role in covering health epidemics world-wide
