The Western States Node of the National Drug Abuse Treatment Clinical Trials Network was established in 2010 combining the Regional Research and Training Centers and the Community Treatment Programs of the Northern California/Arizona and Oregon/Hawaii Nodes. The Western States Node includes Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Northern California, and Oregon. The Node provides a system of developing, validating, refining, and testing treatment options for substance abuse. Researchers and Community Treatment Programs collaborate on studies of behavioral and pharmacological interventions to determine the most effective treatment options for patients in various settings and of all backgrounds. The Clinical Trials Network multisite trials facilitate the translation of research results to physicians, clinicians, providers, and patients.
