Research
For her dissertation, Raina directed an archaeological excavation on Goree Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Senegal, with Fulbright-Hays and Social Science Research Council grants. Her thesis was on the decentralization and privitization of slave labor and the island's transition from a 17th century colonial outpost to a 19th century urban trade nexus. Raina now looks to study public health issues among minority populations.
