Herbert M. Woodcock, M.D. 1921-1999

Dr. Woodcock joined the OHSU Department of Psychiatry in 1969 and served on the faculty until his retirement in 1990. During his 21 years as a member of the Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Dr. Woodcock served as Chief, Consultation-Liaison Service (1969–1990), Director, Outpatient Clinic (1983–1990) and Consultant, Children's Psychiatric Day Treatment Center (1982–1999). The Woodcock Lectureship was established in 1999 to honor Herbert M. Woodcock, M.D., Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry. The Lectureship recognizes Dr. Woodcock's devotion to teaching the principles of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy to the broad range of health professionals who are involved in the care and guidance of children, adolescents and young adults.

Salman Akhtar Woodcock Lecture

Speaker: Salman Akhtar, M.D.

Salman Akhtar, MD is Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at Jefferson Medical College and a Training & Supervising Analyst at the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia. He has over 450 publications to his credit which include 110 authored or edited books. Dr. Akhtar has served on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Psychoanalysis, Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association, and Psychoanalytic Quarterly. He has received numerous honors, including the highly prestigious Sigourney Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychoanalysis. Recently a 10 volume set of his Selected Papers was released at the Freud House and Museum in London. He has also published 18 collections of poetry in three languages and serves as a Scholar-in-Residence at the Inter-Act Theater Company in Philadelphia.

Trudie Rossouw Headshot

Speaker: Dr. Trudie Rossouw, MRCPsych., M.D. (Res)

Dr. Rossouw is a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist and the lead clinician for an adolescent unit in the north east of London. She is the associate medical director for children's services and a qualified psychoanalyst. Dr. Rossouw's expertise lies in the area of adolescent self harm and personality disorder and she has conducted an RCT(Randomized Control Trial) testing mentalisation based treatment against treatment as usual. Dr. Trudie Rossouw published several papers and book chapters on the subject.

Deborah Cabaniss Headshot

Speaker: Dr. Deborah Cabaniss, M.D.

Associate Director of Residency Training, Director of Psychotherapy Training, Columbia University Department of Psychiatry; Director, Virginia Apgar Academy of Medical Educators, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. Cabaniss' research interests primarily involve psychoanalytic and psychiatric education and she has authored many articles on this topic. She is the recipient of the 2014 Presidential Teaching Award for Outstanding Teaching from Columbia University. Dr. Cabaniss is also a two-time Teichner Scholar of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry and lead author of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: A Clinical Manual and Psychodynamic Formulation which have become core reading in psychiatry residencies throughout North America and are being translated into Mandarin, Korean, and Farsi.

Professor Fonagy lives in London.
