Director of OHSU Family Medicine Residency
Roger Garvin, MD
Roger received his medical degree from Oregon Health and Science University in 1985. He completed his residency at Family Medicine Spokane and practiced 8 years of full spectrum care in a small town in Eastern Washington. He then spent 11 years on the faculty of the Spokane Family Medicine residency and completed a faculty development fellowship at the University of Washington. Dr Garvin is a diplomat of the American Board of Family Medicine, a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine and the American College of Sports Medicine. He now serves as the Family Medicine Residency Director. Roger was born and raised in Oregon and enjoys bike touring with his family, running, cooking and reading.
Associate Professor
Valerie King, MD, MPH
Valerie King, MD, MPH is a 1991 honors graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, and the UNC Family Practice (1994) and Preventive Medicine Residency Programs (2000). She received her MPH from the UNC Department of Epidemiology in 1997. She has been a Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Clinical Scholar, and a RWJ Generalist Faculty Scholar. Dr. King joined OHSU Family Medicine in January 2004. Her clinical expertise is in the care of women and children, including family-centered maternity care. Her research interests include evidence-based healthcare, maternal and child health, women’s health, and healthcare decision-making. She is the Associate Director of the John M. Eisenberg Clinical Decisions and Communications Science Center at OHSU, funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Dr. King was born and raised in Idaho and her personal interests include food, tennis, books and films and her greyhounds Chip and Clive.
Chief Resident
Tom Warrington, MD (2009 Graduate)
Each year one 4th year Chief Resident serves in a leadership position the Department of Family Medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University. Candidates for chief apply to the Department and complete and interview process with faculty and residents. The Chief Resident will have responsibilities in patient care, teaching, administration, and self-education.

The 36 residents currently training in the OHSU family medicine programs come from across the United States and around the world. Their backgrounds and interests are remarkably varied.
