OHSU

Preventive Medicine

Preventive Medicine and Family Medicine

OHSU is applying to the Boards of Family Medicine and Preventive Medicine for certification of a combined four-year training program that prepares residents for dual board certification in both these specialties. Training will occur in university and community settings with excellence in patient care, population-based medicine, teaching and research.

This process will formally recognize as a Combined Program our existing Family Medicine residency track developed in collaboration with the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, and the Clackamas County Public Health Division in 1995.

Graduates of this track are leaders in academic family medicine, medical management, research, global health, and at local and state public health agencies. Most combine research, management and other population-based activities with clinical and public health practice. The curriculum accommodates residents who enter with or without an MPH, as residents entering without an MPH will have an opportunity to earn this degree as part of the training program.
