Clinical Leadership

Clinical/Academic Leadership Instructor

This is a one-year position in Family Medicine, serving as Clinical/Academic Leadership Instructor for the Department of Family Medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University.  The Instructor will report to the Vice-Chair and Chair of the Department of Family Medicine. The Instructor will have responsibilities in patient care, teaching, administration, and self-education.

 

Patient Care Responsibilities

  • Will act as the attending physician on the OHSU Family Medicine Inpatient Service for four to six weeks. 
  • The direct supervisor will be the Vice-Chair in Family Medicine.
  • Will work in the Family Medicine Clinic four half days per week, including one evening clinic session, providing direct patient care.
  • Will be included in the maternity care, including service on the labor and delivery unit.

 

Educational Responsibilities

  • Will precept in the Family Medicine Clinic one half-day per week.
  • Along with the Residency Director, will revise, implement, and evaluate the Residency’s Practice Management Curriculum.
  • Will be available to precept medical students, including for the Principles of Clinical Medicine (PCM) preceptorship, family medicine clerkship, or subinternship.
  • Will be available to be a small group leader for winter quarter of year 2 of PCM.
  • May participate as educator within both resident and student programs.  This includes resident conferences, and student learning sessions including OSCE’s, GOSCE’s, patient management rounds, Primary Care Clerkship presentations, clerkship seminars, and PCM small groups.
  • Position could be structured to allow Integrative Medicine Fellow to fulfill their curriculum requirements

      

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Will participate in Wednesday AM faculty meetings, including faculty development sessions (7:30-8:30 AM).
  • Will participate in the Friday, bi weekly FM Board of Directors Meeting (7-8:30 AM).
  • Will participate in all other applicable meetings as designated by your supervisor. 

                  

Call Responsibilities

Will take attending call during his or her four to six weeks on the Inpatient Service.  He/she will not be required to take primary jeopardy calls.  He/she will participate in the call schedule for their clinic, and the Labor and Delivery schedule

 

Self Education/Research/Fellowship

  • Will work with the Vice-Chair to develop research projects.  This would include, but not be limited to, the potential to develop grantable projects in the areas of practice management or utilization review.  The Instructor would be expected to develop one or more of these projects to the point where it could be presented at a regional or national meeting.
  • Will be allowed to attend CME activities which relate to practice management/utilization review, quality assurance or other activities which are consistent with the goals and objectives of the position.  The Department of Family Medicine will support this educational mission.  The Department will pay reasonable tuition expense.  Travel and lodging will come out of the Fellow’s CME Budget.
  • May pursue another scholarly endeavor of his or her choice during the academic year.  This activity will be approved by the Vice-Chair and Chair of Family Medicine.
  • May assist in the successful implementation of one or more of the Department’s funded grant proposals
  • Position could be structured to allow Integrative Medicine Fellow to fulfill their curriculum requirements.
