Pediatric Radiology Fellowship

Our select Pediatric Radiology Fellowship is based at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital on the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) hilltop campus, overlooking the beautiful Willamette River Valley. Doernbecher is recognized as one of the nation’s “best children’s hospitals” by US News and World Report, and our fellowship curriculum reflects the rich clinical experience that that designation implies.

Doernbecher’s diverse and inspirational patients are at the heart of our training program. Many come to us from OHSU’s own robust primary care base; others are referred from urban and rural practices throughout the Pacific Northwest and neighboring states. Increasingly, our patients travel to us from remote locations around the country, drawn by our nationally recognized physicians, the sophisticated therapies that we provide, and the exceptional family-centered care for which Doernbecher is known. Our trainees benefit from over 195,000 pediatric outpatient visits, admissions, operations, and transports annually. More than 35,000 pediatric imaging examinations are performed and interpreted each year.

Superb patient care and education of the highest quality pediatric radiologists are our top priorities and are supported at Doernbecher and OHSU by a fully implemented Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system, a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), and state-of-the-art imaging equipment.

Our Pediatric Radiology Fellowship is ACGME-accredited and requires a one-year commitment from participants. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for the American Board of Radiology Certificate of Added Qualifications (ABR CAQ) examination in Pediatric Radiology. We select only one fellow per academic year from a slate of highly qualified candidates.

Greetings from Portland, Oregon! We thank you for your interest in OHSU’s Pediatric Radiology Fellowship. It is our goal to help each of our trainees reach his or her highest potential. Toward that end, we have designed a rigorous and demanding pediatric radiology curriculum, with rich clinical experiences and abundant opportunities to learn. An OHSU education is about thinking critically, conquering complexity, knowing when and how to find new information, and preparing to excel throughout a lifetime. The size of our program allows us to provide fellows with individual attention. Our educational philosophy fosters graduated autonomy with appropriate supervision and generous mentoring. We challenge our fellows to participate fully in their education and, in turn, we provide them with the tools they need for a productive, exciting and thoroughly fulfilling pediatric radiology career.

Among the keys to success in our field is a healthy work-life balance. At OHSU, we advocate strongly for the wellness of our peers and trainees, as we do for the wellness of our patients. Portland, Oregon is an easy place to make happiness a habit.
