Meet the Associate Program Director
Dawn Dillman, M.D., is the Associate Program Director and Director of Medical Student Education for the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, Oregon Health & Science University(OHSU), Portland, OR. She also serves as a Director of Student Affairs in the OHSU School of Medicine.
Dr. Dillman grew up in Iowa, and received her B.S. in biology ('94) and M.D. ('98) from the University of Iowa (Go Hawks!), and was honored to be selected for AOA during her senior year. She then completed a Preliminary Medicine program at Sinai Hospital ('99) and Anesthesiology residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital ('02) in Baltimore, MD. During her residency she was one of the last Chief Residents under Dr. Jeffrey Kirsch as program director. After completion of her residency, Dr. Dillman joined the faculty at University of Texas San Antonio for a year as a generalist on the regional team. She then followed Dr. Kirsch to join the OHSU faculty in 2003 as a generalist on the regional team.
Dr. Dillman's academic interests include medical education, interprofessional education, simulation and airway management. She helped co-edit a book, Decision Making in Anesthesiology, 4th Ed, which has been translated into Spanish and Chinese. She has been very involved in the Undergraduate Medical Education curriculum, including being a course co-director for the MS1 and MS2 course Principles of Clinical Medicine. She is also currently one of the advisory college leads for the Acute Care College.
Dr. Dillman lives in Portland with her partner and two small children, two cats and parrot. She enjoys playing with her kids, going to the zoo and museums, and baking.
