Program Director

Meet the Program Director

Ryan Fink

Ryan Fink, M.D, is the Program Director in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU).

Dr. Ryan Fink was born and raised in Michigan, and went to the University of Michigan for his undergraduate and medical school education. Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine training was completed at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. After graduating in 2012, he worked at Duke University and the Durham VA Medical Center doing both operating room anesthesiology as well as caring for patients in the surgical intensive care units. In 2014, he moved to Oregon and was fortunate to join the faculty at Oregon Health & Science University, continuing to care for patients both in the operating room and intensive care unit.

Dr. Fink was initially the associate program director for the critical care medicine fellowship, before taking on the program director role in 2018. He has remained active in resident and fellow education, and has worked diligently to expand the scope of education for our critical care fellows. He serves on departmental committees related to the resident and fellow recruitment as well as assessment of clinical competency. His clinical interests include high risk anesthesia as well as postoperative care of cardiothoracic surgery patients.

Dr. Fink lives in Portland with his husband, Dr. Derek Applewhite, and dog Des (yes, named after Desflurane!). He enjoys all the beautiful outdoor adventures available in the area, especially summer cliff jumping into the crystal clear and usually freezing water at the multiple swimming holes around Portland.
